It is a fact that for fashion professionals and fashion enthusiasts, September and October is the time for beauty. Due to the covid pandemic, this Fashion Week season has been smothered. And rightly so. With the limited schedule of New York Fashion Week and the last-minute changes to Paris Fashion Week, fashion events that was once plentiful in the fashion capital of the world are now slim to none. Fortunately, there are some productions striving and stepping up to the task of creating a safe, healthy, and bountiful space for fashion. This year’s Fashion Week Brooklyn (FWBK) season has taken an unprecedented feat in holding virtual fashion shows.

Models and designers alike were able to show their talent and strut their stuff on rooftop catwalks in Brooklyn, NY for the pre-taped shows all without an audience. This opportunity did not come easily. There was much preparation and precautions taken to ensure the safety of all who were involved. Eliminating production model calls and relying on the designers to cast their own was a major change for the show. During normal circumstances, castings can draw upwards of 500+ models. This was not possible during the pandemic. Social distancing measures, temperature checks, covid forms, and closed sets were implemented for all locations and shows. However, with a collective effort from the cast and crew, the mission was accomplished. Beautifully shot footage was recorded from various angles allowing for full views of the designs and models themselves. Along with the Brooklyn footage, this season will also feature shows from the Caribbean, filmed in the Barbados as well as Manila expanding Brooklyn’s reach allowing for international expansion.

While solidifying Brooklyn in the fashion industry, it highlights Brooklyn’s unique culture, beauty, and the people. With a strong sense of cultural awareness and inclusivity reflecting New York City’s vast diverse population, the production continues to propel new standards of beauty within the fashion industry. This season featured youth designers, genderless fashion, streetwear, ready to wear, children’s fashion, and the ever growing and conscious sustainability designs.
